2017 Robert Foley "The Griffin" Red Blend (Napa Valley, CA) 8R

Much like the mythical Griffin, this wine is a formidable fusion of various attributes. It combines Petite Sirah, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Charbono, and Syrah to produce a delightful blend, presenting luscious raspberry notes harmoniously countered by a refreshing acidity. The finish possesses just the right amount of grip, rendering it an accessible and versatile red wine that pairs excellently with a variety of dishes. This year's release showcases a well-balanced composition of classic claret grapes, such as Merlot and Petit Verdot, along with my preferred Rhone-inspired varieties, including Syrah, Petite Sirah, and Charbono.

    About The Varietal

    Charbono

Charbono (Bonarda) is a widely traveled red-wine grape variety with a complicated history. Originally from the alpine vineyards of Savoie in eastern France, it is now mostly planted in Napa Valley, where it is known as Charbono, and in Argentina, where it goes by the name Bonarda.
