2019 Kongsgaard Syrah (Napa Valley, CA)

The Kongsgaard is an incredibly rich Chardonnay, but you can’t call it one-note. It’s buttery but also layered with the brilliant complexity that can only come from a winemaker with as much under their belt as John Kongsgaard, and the rocky hilltop the vineyards are planted on. These wines have consistently received critical acclaim, including a vintage that earned 100 points from Robert Parker. Drink now or lay it down to age, either way it pairs beautifully with mushrooms and other roasted vegetables.

    About The Varietal

    Syrah

Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.
