2019 Domaine de Marcoux Lirac La Lorentine (Rhone Valley, FR) 6R

Yet another exceptional pick by Eric Solomon, this wine harmoniously blends the classic grape varieties: Mourvedre, Syrah, and a touch of Grenache, all sourced from the lesser-known Lirac region. Lirac, situated just to the west of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, is renowned for wines that exhibit a distinctive character, driven by gravelly soils and a slightly less pronounced ripeness.

In the glass, this wine unveils a deep, dense character adorned with shades of purple fruits, earthiness, enticing baking spices, sandalwood, plum skins, black currants, ripe mûre, subtle pencil shavings, and an undercurrent of dusty acidity. Despite its light demeanor, it exudes a remarkable power and presence.

    About The Varietal

    GSM Blend

The traditional and robust blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvedre is typically linked to the southern Rhone, notably in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. However, exceptional wines with this blend are also crafted in the New World, with Australia and California standing out as regions that produce highly praised examples.
