2019 Les Vins de Vienne Saint-Joseph (Rhone Valley, FR) 6R

Les Vins de Vienne is a distinctive venture led by three esteemed winemakers from the Rhône Valley: Yves Cuilleron, Pierre Gaillard, and François Villard. This collaborative effort emerged when these close friends, each with their own established vineyards, turned their attention to the overlooked Seyssuel vineyard near the village of Vienne in the Northern Rhône during the 1990s.

The remarkable steep slopes facing south and southwest in Seyssuel resemble those found in Côte Rôtie and Condrieu. Enriched with slate, along with traces of quartz and mica, the soil of this vineyard proves ideal for crafting rich, complex wines and characterized by a pronounced minerality.

    About The Varietal

    Syrah

Shiraz and Syrah are interchangeable names for the same dark-skinned grape variety when viewed in terms of DNA. Originating in the Rhône Valley, this grape dominates plantings in the northern section of the valley. The name Shiraz is commonly used in Australia and certain regions of the New World, particularly those with warmer climates. The stylistic differences between Shiraz and Syrah wines are often distinct, contributing to the enduring dual identities of this grape variety.
