    About The Producer

    Susana Balbo

Once recognized as one of Argentina's top female winemakers, Susana Balbo originally aspired to pursue nuclear physics. However, her parents deemed it an "unconventional choice, " preventing her from leaving Mendoza. Instead, she joined the family’s winemaking business and, in 1981, became the first woman in Argentina to earn a degree in enology. She then dedicated herself to studying the Torrontes grape at Michel Torino Winery and consulting for wineries across South America, Europe, and Australia. 1999 she established Susana Balbo Wines in Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza. Today, her son José, a UC Davis graduate, and daughter Ana, a University of San Andrés graduate, work alongside her. In 2018, she was named one of "The 10 Most Influential Women in the Wine World" by The Drinks Business magazine.
